Pikes Peak Waterfall

Today I woke up and decided I wanted to go to Pikes Peak. No, I’m not talking about the mountain near Colorado Springs. This “Pikes Peak” is in Iowa, and overlooks the Mississippi River and Prairie Du Chien, WI. There are some wooden, bridge-like, walkways to explore the area, and a small waterfall not too far from the start.

It was almost 30° today so that was nice, and the drive over to Iowa was sunny.

I talked about music in my last post, so I might just start including what I’m listening to here and there, and I’ll add when I discover a new artist that you all might like to check out. Today I listened to KYKO in the car. If you haven’t heard of KYKO, he is sort of an alternative/indie/pop artist from England. I discovered him, I think, at the end of 2015, and he only released one single in 2016. I’m definitely expecting some new tunes from him this year. My favorite track from KYKO is Native, but the Animals EP, and the newest single, Nature, are also really good. He is one of my most played artists for sure!

If you want to listen to Native to see if you dig it, click here, and if you like what you hear, I encourage you to listen to his other songs, and snag em on iTunes if you want!

I walked out to the waterfall and liked the way the creek above looked with the fresh snow we got last night.

I hiked down below the waterfall to get a better perspective than most people get a chance to see.

Why not get inside of the little cave for a view that is less explored? It’s so much more satisfying being inside of the cave/waterfall, than just looking down at it from a bridge. The view of the creek below was beautiful. I could stand on the ice that extended past the edge of the cliff, and reach out and feel the running water.

And there were lots of photogenic icicles.

I’m so glad I decided to check out this location today. It was well worth the drive.
